The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals Charitable Trust was set up by members of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals (“the Company”). It is a registered charity (1088658). Whilst a separate legal entity to the Company, there is a close working relationship, and each of the twelve Trustees must be a member of the Company. The Trustees, including the Master who is an ex officio member of the Board, meet regularly under the Chairship of Court Assistant Ashley Fernandes. Biographies of the Trustees can be found here. The Trust is a grant making trust focussed on the wider world of security. This page tells you about the Trusts mission, the projects we support and how you can donate.
The Trust’s mission is to distribute monies in order to
(i) assist members and former members of the security profession in difficulty and alleviating suffering and distress;
(ii) promote and further education; and
(iii) deliver projects with wider significance to the public.
In doing so, we aim to provide Kindness in Security, valuing and adopting our ethics of Commitment, Integrity and Trust. In the last decade, to 2023, we have donated over £536,000 to charitable causes, with £65,761 donated in the year 2022/23. Full details of our donations can be found in the Annual Report to the Charity Commission, which can be found here. Charitable causes supported includes:
- The education sector (the Endeavour Award at the Harris Garrard Academy, the Whittington Course, the Kings College MA Award, and for foundationers at Reeds School), including support cadets. Recent Donations include the City of London Police Cadets and the Wanstead and Woodford Air Cadets.
- The Sheriffs’ Award for Bravery, given out at the Annual Dinner, and for the commendations presented at Common Hall.
- Organisations currently supported include Friendship Works, Build Up Foundation, Helen Arkell dyslexia charity, London Air Ambulance, PTSD Resolution, City Harvest, the Secure Futures initiative, Furnishing Futures, and the Disney Fund.
- Replenishing Emergency Trauma Bags in the City of London for those held in livery halls across the City (the WCOSP Trust supported the roll out of these bags 5 years ago and these needed refreshing).
- Supporting the Consortium for the Prevention of Suicide – funded a video to raise awareness of the risk of suicide to the security profession and through supporting R;pple, an online suicide prevention tool.
The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals Charitable Trust also administers The Security Benevolent Fund. This is a fund within the Charity which is there to assist members of the security profession who are distressed and in need of welfare support. Further details are available on the SBF page.
In 2021 the Charitable Trust launched the COVID-19 crisis fund to support front line security professionals who have been adversely affected by the pandemic. The Trust set up the fund with a donation and is extremely grateful for the support from industry including the Security Industry Authority. The fund provided a payment of £500 to the families of those front line security professionals who lost their lives to COVID-19 and a £250 payment to those front line security professionals hospitalised with COVID-19. The COVID fund is now closed but applications that meet the criteria can still be made to the general Trust.
