Freedom of The Company
What is a Freeman?
The majority of members will become Freemen by Redemption – an exclusive invitation by the Court to members who match the qualification criteria to be Free of the Company. Other less usual routes to Freedom are by Patrimony – which applies to the adult children of Freemen, and by Servitude – which applies to Apprentices.
Eligibility
Any Member shall be eligible to be nominated, elected and admitted as a Freeman of the Company provided that he/she meets the membership requirements set out in Article 4 of the Company Ordinances i.e.:
- They have been a member of the Company for at least 12 months;
- They have attended a New Members’ briefing;
- They have attended at least two of the Company’s City of London events; and,
- There are no outstanding monies due either to the Company or to its’ Charitable Trust.
